General Information
|
Welcome to West University Pickleball. The goal here is to make a simple friendly neighborhood game in to an interesting collection of data.
History records will be kept in a form of "Tournament", where a "Tournament" can be as large as 16 people, or small as 4 people. The goal is to
quickly generate a series of matchups that will either make sense, or just be fun. There will be 2 forms of tournaments.
- Random Teammates
- Seeded Teammates (Coming Soon!)
Under Random teammates, you will simply start a "Tournament". Simply select all players in attendance, choose tournament type, and Go!
So how will scoring work?
All players by default will start with a 3.5 rating (regardless of whether this rating is merited or not). When teams are formed,
I will simply take the sum of ratings of 1 team vs the sum of ratings of the other team, and calculate a game value. This game value
will dictate how many points the winners get, and how many points the losers lose. I'm still working through the formula, but a rough draft looks
something like:
First you determine the Game value Rating. This is the amount of rating points awarded to the winning team, and deducted from the losing team. The greater the upset, the more valuable this game is.

When using this formula, you will see that the net result is the following:

Frequently asked questions:
| Q: Why didn't you take score in to account? |
|
| A: I personally feel that pickleball games are too fast, and that scores are eratic. There's also no point in running up the score either, this isn't College Football. |
| Q: When a strong player teams with a weak player, it seems that under your system both players gain/lose the same value. Shouldn't the crappy player take more deductions for losses? |
|
| A: This is an unfair assumption, perhaps the better player is over-rated? there is no right answer here, so both take the same gain/loss from the result. |
